Best Locations for Family Photos in Myrtle Beach You’ll Love

Planning a family photo session in Myrtle Beach or Pawleys Island? Choosing the right location is key to creating timeless, natural portraits your family will love. This stretch of the South Carolina coast offers some of the most scenic spots for beach photography.

At Pasha Belman Photography, we have photographed families across the Grand Strand for over a decade. From soft sand dunes to quiet oak-covered trails, we know the best places for light-filled, relaxed family photos.

In this guide, we are sharing our favorite family photo locations in Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island. These spots offer beautiful light, peaceful settings, and the perfect backdrop for unforgettable portraits.

Pawleys Island is one of the most beautiful family photography locations on the Grand Strand, and the light there is consistently stunning in spring and fall. If you are planning a session at Pawleys Island, our Myrtle Beach photography weather guide will help you choose the ideal month and session window for your portraits.

1. Litchfield Beach – Natural, Uncrowded Beauty

Litchfield Beach is one of the most peaceful and photogenic beaches in the Myrtle Beach area. Its soft dunes, scattered sea oats, and wide stretches of sand provide a dreamy setting for beach photography. This location is perfect for families looking for a quiet, private session with golden hour light.

Why we love it:

  • Fewer crowds
  • Gorgeous light during sunrise and sunset
  • Perfect for barefoot, relaxed portraits

2. Huntington Beach State Park

This location offers incredible variety all in one place, maritime forests, a peaceful marsh boardwalk, and even a historic castle. It’s an ideal choice for families who want more than just sandy shores in their portraits. For those seeking Southern charm and rich visual backdrops, Huntington Beach State Park is one of my top recommendations for a family photo session.

What makes it special:

  • Iconic moss-draped oak trees
  • Scenic causeways and walking paths
  • Perfect for extended family sessions

3. Debordieu Colony – Luxury Meets Nature

If your family is visiting the Georgetown or Pawleys Island area, Debordieu is a hidden gem. With its upscale private beaches and unspoiled natural beauty, it’s one of the most elegant and peaceful spots for a family photo session. I especially enjoy photographing large families here—the clean backgrounds, soft dunes, and refined atmosphere create timeless portraits every time.

Best for:

  • Upscale, timeless family portraits
  • Extended family groups
  • Sunset sessions with elegant styling

4. Garden City & Murrells Inlet – Laid-Back Coastal Vibes

For families who love a little character and quirk, Garden City and Murrells Inlet offer cozy beach spots with old-school charm. If your family likes a more casual feel, this area might be just the right fit.

Why it works:

  • Laid-back, nostalgic setting
  • Ideal for playful or candid moments
  • Close to family-friendly vacation rentals

5. Your Vacation Rental or Private Beach House

Some of our favorite sessions happen right on the porch or yard of a family’s rental home. If your vacation house has beach access or sits on a pretty corner lot, we can use it to tell your story in a personal, meaningful way. We bring the same level of polish and creativity no matter where we shoot.

Pros of using your location:

  • Comfortable for kids and grandparents
  • Minimal travel time for you
  • Feels more personal and intimate

What to Expect During Your Family Photo Session

My approach is always relaxed, natural, and focused on capturing genuine connection. You’ll receive just enough guidance to look your best without ever feeling stiff or overly posed. Whether your kids are shy or bursting with personality, the goal is to create images that feel true to your family, real, joyful, and beautifully authentic.

Common Questions About Your
Myrtle Beach Family Session

What time of day is best for family beach photos?

Golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset. The light is warm, soft, and flattering on everyone. Midday light on the beach is harsh and creates unflattering shadows. Every session is scheduled at golden hour only. One session per slot, no exceptions.

How long does the session last?

Sessions range from 30 minutes to one hour depending on your package. Most families with young kids do well in 45 minutes. Larger extended family groups often benefit from the full hour. Pasha moves efficiently so nothing feels rushed and nothing gets missed.

What should we wear for family beach photos?

Soft neutrals, whites, and muted tones work best on the South Carolina coast. Avoid bright logos, busy patterns, and matching outfits. Coordinated tones photograph better than identical clothing. Every booked family receives a personalized wardrobe guide before their session.

Do you photograph at locations outside of Myrtle Beach?

Yes. Sessions are available throughout the Grand Strand including Pawleys Island, Litchfield Beach, DeBordieu, Murrells Inlet, Garden City Beach, Surfside Beach, and North Myrtle Beach. Location recommendations are included in session planning.

How soon will we receive our photos?

Your fully edited gallery is delivered within 2 to 3 days. All high resolution digital files are included with full printing rights. No upsells, no waiting weeks.

Can you photograph large extended families?

Yes. Groups of 20 or more are welcome. Pasha photographs large family reunions along the Grand Strand regularly and knows exactly how to organize and move a big group without losing the relaxed, natural feel.
