When it comes to Southern plantation wedding venues, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is one of our very favorites. After photographing many beautiful weddings over the years, we can attest to the magic of its oak tree alleys. It has the perfect landscape of the old South but with the hospitality and accommodations of a luxurious golf course. Greer and Ben travelled from Charleston, SC to Pawleys Island to get married here, because there is no place like Caledonia, especially during spring time. Scroll down and see for yourself how amazing this wedding venue is. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club Wedding Photographer - Pasha Belman
Ben and I met in Clemson 6 years ago. He was a senior and I was a sophomore. We were set up on a blind date and instantly hit it off, although we were both a little stubborn so it took us awhile to start dating. In the mean time, he taught me to love football and I taught him where the library was :) We fell in love fast and once we accepted that fact, there was no going back. It was tough when he had to graduate and move to Charleston and I had to stay behind and finish two more years of school. It was even harder when I took a job in Greenville after graduating. But we made it through 3 years of being 4 hours apart because each time we got to see one another, it made it all worth it. We loved our weekends in Clemson watching the Tigers play and our summers in Charleston on the boat with friends. And in 2017, I made it back to Charleston and we were finally in the same city for the first time since we starting dating. One year later, Ben proposed to me over coffee and eggs in Costa Rica and 9-months later, we were married in Ben's hometown of Pawleys Island. We never doubted for a minute that being together forever was meant to be, it just took us a few cities and a few thousand miles to get there
Ben grew up in Pawleys Island and it will always have a very special place in his heart. Over the years he brought me there to meet his parents for the first time, introduced me to his childhood friends, showed me his favorite fishing spots and the beauty of the Black River. I quickly fell in love with it too. When it was time to decide on a place, Pawleys Island was the only option in both of our minds. And stepping foot on the grounds of Caledonia only made the decision that much easier.
I had no idea what I wanted. My mother and I walked into a wedding boutique in Pawleys just for fun one day before our engagement pictures. I tried on a few and I felt like it was going to be the hardest decision...they were all so beautiful! But the moment I put on my dress, I just knew. I wasn't the one I was expecting to choose, it wasn't the most expensive or the most extravagant. It was simple and classic, and just felt right.
It would have to be the moment my mother placed my hand in Ben's hand and gave me away. It felt surreal in the best way possible. I wasn't nervous like I had imagined. My biggest fear that day was being in front 200 people but they all seemed to melt away in that moment. It was just Ben & I and our reverend bringing God and love into our marriage and I have never felt something come together more beautifully.
The locket around my bouquet that held a picture of my father. He passed away four years ago and was my very best friend. He not being there with us in person was the only piece of the puzzle I felt was missing from our perfect fairytale and something I had struggled leading up to the wedding. But he was very much with me that day. My sister, mom and I felt his love all around us. I held the locket close to me as my uncle walked me down the aisle and even closer as my mom gave me away to Ben on her and my father's behalf. The locket was a physical reminder that he is always right by my side.
With every wedding there's certain things that are extremely important to you and things that feel less significant. For Ben, his big thing was the band - so we got a really good one! For me, it was the photographer - so we did the same. I wanted our photos to the capture the love that was our wedding day - the love Ben and I have for each other and the abundance of love we felt from our friends and family who have show us overwhelming support throughout the years. We wanted someone that made everyone feel comfortable so that those special moments could be captured. Someone who understood the amount of effort and care we put into our wedding day and who captured each moment with the same effort and care. We absolutely found that in Pasha and could not be more grateful for it.
ENJOY IT. It's cliche I know, but it's so true. Don't stress the details, they will work themselves out. Get excited about marrying the love of your life and take in every moment because it will fly by.
