Their Love Story

HOW I MET MY FUTURE WIFE

It was the summer of 2015, I had a girl friend come to town to visit, and she wanted to stop by a local boutique in downtown Columbia to say hello to old friends and of course shop, and as a guy, I wasn’t too thrilled.  Little did I know, that in that store I would meet my future wife for the first time.  Elizabeth walked by me in the boutique and I was struck immediately by her stunning beauty.  I knew I had to meet her, so I walked up to the register where she was working and started a small conversation with her in between customers.  When my friend came out of the dressing room in the back, it was time to leave.  As we walked out of the store, I looked at my friend and said, “I’m going to date that girl, she’s amazing!” There was only one problem…I DIDN’T GET HER LAST NAME!!

A week or so passed, and I couldn’t stop thinking about the girl I met at that boutique, so I did some searching through mutual friends and found her on Facebook.  I messaged Liz and told her I hoped her skills working on the register had improved.  We scheduled a date to grab dinner for the next week, but life got into the way and it never happened.  I worked on South Carolina’s Football staff and she was competing for the Miss South Carolina crown.  Days turned into weeks, weeks to months, and months to years.  After almost two years of dating other people and keeping in touch periodically, hours of phone calls, texts, and snap chat conversations, life finally slowed down enough for an opportunity to make it all work! I had taken a new job with the baseball program at USC and as our season was winding down, it was the perfect chance to make my move.  I took her as a date to a friend’s wedding and I knew she was the one. After the wedding, she brought her dog Mellie over for a play date with my dog Bella.  We sat and talked about life and the road that led us to each other until almost 3 AM!  After that night I knew that I had found my future wife.  A month later, she traveled to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for a beach trip with my family, and a few weeks following that, we “officially” started dating when I asked her to be my girlfriend at Pinnacles Overlook on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.

This past summer almost one year later, with family and friends gathered secretly at her parent’s house in Wachesaw Plantation Club. I asked the most perfect young woman I have ever met to be my forever best friend and future wife.  That day in the pouring rain, the weather may not have been perfect, but the moment together among the Avenue of the Oaks, was.  The girl of my dreams said Yes!  We will be getting married on December 14th, 2019, in Murrells Inlet, SC.  God Bless the broken road and His work, to put Elizabeth Black in my life, she is the best thing to ever happen to me.  True love does exist, and it will last a lifetime. I love you Elizabeth Nell Black, forever and always. – Ryan
